Veneers and LaminatesVeneers are very thin pieces of porcelain that are
custom-made, custom-fitted, and which are then bonded to your natural teeth.
Veneers are an excellent way to correct minor tooth imperfections such as
crooked, chipped, stained or discolored teeth, and to alter length or size of
the teeth with minimal risk to your natural tooth structure. Veneers have a
longer life expectancy and color stability than bonding, and highly resist
permanent staining.Dr. Roshankar will do a complete examination
of your teeth to determine if veneers are the right solution for
you. The procedure can usually be accomplished in two
appointments after the initial diagnosis and treatment planning.
At the first appointment, the teeth will be prepared, which
requires removal of approximately half a millimeter of tooth
structure, shaping the teeth, and then taking an impression. Dr.
Roshankar will also photograph your teeth to accurately record
their color. This appointment takes approximately one or two
hours. The mold and photographs of your teeth are then sent to a
laboratory where the veneers are fabricated by technicians who
specialize in creating restorations that look and feel like
natural teeth. While these are being prepared, Dr. Roshankar
will fabricate acrylic veneers which will be cemented to your
teeth for approximately three weeks while the laboratory creates
the final restorations.
During the
second visit, also about one or two hours, the veneers are
placed on the tooth surface to check their fit and judge the
accuracy of the shade or color. To apply the veneer, the tooth
is cleansed with specific chemicals to achieve a bond. Once a
special cement is sandwiched between the veneer and tooth, a
visible light beam, or laser, causes a catalyst to be released,
hardening the cement.
During a two-week period of adjustment that follows,
you may notice the change of size and shape in your teeth. It is
important to brush and floss daily. After one or two weeks, you
will return for a follow-up appointment.
